Fine Dining

Dining while touring is all about extremes. You may be scrounging a gas station for cans of sardines and stale crackers for lunch and eating wonderful fresh caught seafood for supper. Part of the appeal to bicycle travel is the opportunity to sample the local cuisine. It may be corn chips and soda from a vending machine or the local barbeque shack’s ribs. Whatever you come across usually tastes better after a hard day riding.

Carrying some food as a backup when nothing else is available is a good idea. Some folks carry oatmeal or some form of cereal, some carry dehydrated meals or energy bars. My wife and I are partial to couscous and packs of salmon or tuna and we always have a bag of trail mix on hand.

What food do you carry while touring?
