The Linn Cove Viaduct

(This is not my photo, it’s from: http://www.grandfather.com/about/hi_res_photos.php)

Snaking its’ way around the slopes of Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina, the Linn Cove Viaduct is impressive.  I had the Viaduct built up in my mind as jaw dropping wonder to view after seeing awe-inspiring photographs on the internet.  The internet is a tricky devil.  Those photographs were helicopter shots I’m sure.  I searched but never found the same postcard views you see in, well, postcards.  Still, I was blown away by this 1243-foot concrete behemoth.  The Viaduct was the last section of the Blue Ridge Parkway to be finished.  Construction began in 1979 and was completed in 1983 at a cost of 10 million dollars.

Looking for the perfect view, and ended up here?
