Destination Day Touring

Every town has at least one; some attraction or landmark.  Perhaps it’s a well known park, museum or tourist attraction.  It’s the place the locals seldom go, but ‘out of towners’ travel miles to visit.  Destination day touring is about becoming a tourist in your own back yard.

Over the past few years, my wife and I have begun incorporating more and more activities into our day rides.  Our very good friend Paige started us off with a wonderful ride to a local gem mine.  Other destination rides in our area include wine tasting and picnic lunches on the campus of John C. Campbell Folk School and short hikes to water falls.

As we begin the process of offering guided local day rides to tourists who visit our little town, I’m reminded that a bike tour doesn’t need to be an epic undertaking.  A bike tour is anything you want it to be.  There is no right or wrong way to tour.  If you’re on your bike and exploring, you’re touring.

Well, I think a ride to the “Road to No Where” would be an interesting trek for lots of visitors…
